Curing Florida's Prison System With A Second Look
A Second Look At Second Chances
Our goal is to advocate for criminal reform in the way of legislative engagement. We are seeking political action to pass the Second Look Sentencing bill to include parole-eligible persons for a resentencing review.
This bill will provide a gateway for incarcerated individuals to be reviewed after being incarcerated for a number of years to determine if they have been rehabilitated. This gateway provides for public safety because these individuals will be required to petition the original court of jurisdiction and if eligible prove through their prison history, educational and rehabilitative records, expert testimony, character witnesses, and the like, to prove they truly reformed. This allows the experts to make these determinations rather than those that do not have the training to do so. Furthermore, the courts are then able to order supervision and mentorship programs to the returning citizens.
